Elodie Kulik was a 24-year-old French banker who was abducted, raped, and murdered on January 10, 2002, in Tertry, a small town in northern France. Her case became infamous due to its brutality and the lack of progress in the investigation.
Kulik left her workplace at a bank in Peronne at around 8 PM on the day of her death, and she was last seen at a gas station nearby. Her car was found abandoned on a nearby road with the radio turned on and the driver's door open. The investigation into her death was hindered by a number of factors, including the time it took for her disappearance to be reported, the lack of forensic evidence at the crime scene due to changes in weather, and conflicting witness reports.
The case eventually gained attention on a national level, with many politicians and celebrities calling for justice in the case. The DNA of the perpetrator was found at the scene but remained unidentifiable for many years. In 2019, more than 17 years after the incident, DNA evidence led to the identification and arrest of Willy Bardon, a former bouncer, who was convicted of kidnapping, rape, and murder of Elodie Kulik and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
